Rapid Rafts Raise £3,000

The white water rapids of the River Tay were no match for the 48 Fund supporters who took the plunge and participated in this year’s Fund White Water Raft Race.

The excitement builds for the intrepid Fund White Water Raft Race participants

With conditions absolutely perfect for some thrilling rafting, they raced a 6-mile course from Aberfeldy to Grandtully, before tackling some of the most exciting white water rapids the Tay has to offer.

And with money still coming in from those that took part, the final total raised by our intrepid paddlers is likely to top £3,000, which will go towards our 125th anniversary appeal.

Organising the event was our Area Development Manager for Scotland, Tricia Boyle.

She says, “I was delighted to see so many people give up their Sundays and head up to join us at the raft race. The money raised will help us to provide advice and funds for thousands of people across the UK.

“As part of the event, Splash White Water Rafting offered a prize for the fastest team over the course. The winners were from UK Border Agency – the Festival Floaters – and they’ve chosen to come back and do some canyoning!

“They also offered one of the raffle prizes, which raised £112, which was to provide the accommodation for a three-day break in Morocco.”

And after the successful revival of our fundraising event, Tricia is already planning for 2012: “All six teams on the day had a fabulous time and want to get involved again. So I can confirm that this will be happening again next year!”
