The 2011 US Open champion signed the shirt on a recent visit to Stormont Castle as a guest of the Northern Ireland Assembly, and was sold on our new eBay auction channel during Northern Ireland Fund Week.
And there was no shortage of eager collectors for items signed by the hottest property in world golf making bids for the item.
Eventually, it went for exactly the reserve price we had set for it – a cool £100.
Fundraising Initiatives Manager Clare Bridges says, “Given that it was a shirt Rory had never worn, it just goes to show you how valuable anything he signs becomes!
“We’re very grateful to everyone who made a bid, and hope that the winning bidder enjoys the item.
“And most importantly, we’re very grateful to everyone at the Northern Ireland Assembly, and Rory McIlroy himself, for making all of this possible.
“The money raised will form part of the Northern Ireland Fund Week total, which together with our 125th anniversary appeal will help us get things done for thousands of people across the UK who need our advice and funds.”
