The Charter is endorsed by the Mayor of London Boris Johnson, who says: “I welcome the London Volunteer Management Charter as an exciting initiative that will continue to improve volunteering experiences in our capital.”
To receive the charter, our Volunteer Support Team ensured we passed a volunteering health check of our Equality & Diversity, Expenses policies, Induction, Organisational Involvement and Personal Development of Volunteers.
Our recruitment and problem-solving processes went under their scrutiny too, plus Reward and Recognition of contributions, and most importantly confirming that we offer a safe working environment and excellent support to all who volunteer for us.
The Charter was awarded this week, which means that we can now benefit from:
- Initiatives about volunteer management
- Updates on the best practice we should have in place
- Help to identify areas we could improve on, using a simple action plan and signpost us to solutions
- And signal to our volunteers, colleagues, donors and supporters that we are serious about implementing good practice
Marie Donnelly, Volunteer Programme Manager, says, “It’s a real feather in the cap of the Volunteer Support Team and shows just how seriously we take supporting volunteering for your in-house charity.
“With a wide range of roles on offer, and the chance to enhance your skills and personal development, there’s never been a better time to give something back to the Civil Service community.
“So help us to get things done!”
The Experts in Volunteering scheme now is two years old and so far over 400 organisations have been involved and this year they aim to more than double this.
So far over 200 free training places and 10 action learning sets have been delivered to support volunteer managers, so we can really benefit from a breadth of best practice from across the region by being signed up.
