Workplace Volunteer Role Profile

Workplace Volunteers have an important role in communicating our services to their colleagues in a variety of ways. Volunteers are encouraged to undertake some or all of these tasks, to suit their skills and available time. The Fund's volunteering roles are not mutually exclusive and volunteers can perform more than one task if they wish.

Role Purpose

To raise the profile of the Fund to staff within individual workplaces and be a point of contact for colleagues who may need our help. Help support fundraising initiatives organised by the Fund and its trading company. Provide assistance to the Fund’s Regional Development Officers when their workplace is visited.

Description and Responsibilities

  • Acting as a point of contact, for information about the Fund, within workplaces.
  • Acting as an ambassador of the Fund, making colleagues and new starters aware that the Fund's services are available to them and their dependants and raising awareness of opportunities to become a regular donor to the Fund.
  • Distributing information on the Fund in the most effective way within the workplace e.g. on notice boards, via the internal communications options.
  • Encouraging participation, within the workplace, of the Fund’s organised fundraising schemes.
  • Organising or helping with local events and activities to raise money and/or awareness within workplaces.

Experience/Qualities

  • An interest in supporting colleagues and encouraging their support for the Fund.
  • A caring attitude and willingness to help others.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A willingness to attend training and develop skills as required.

Time Commitment/Expectation

We estimate the time commitment of a workplace volunteer to be around 2-3 days per annum (approximately 2 hours per month). Volunteers should be willing to undertake occasional travel for training and networking.

Benefits

Volunteering for the Fund provides you with the opportunity to help colleagues and have an impact on the well-being of others within the civil service community.

Volunteering is also a great way to develop new skills and enhance existing ones. As a Workplace Volunteer you will network and engage with others within the civil service community, enhancing your communications expertise, as well as having the opportunity to take initiative, be creative and have some fun!

Training and Development

You will receive a Welcome Pack and publicity materials, plus regular volunteer newsletters to keep you up to date with Fund activities and developments. Volunteers are invited to attend the Fund’s induction event, and training and guidance is offered to support volunteers with fundraising and communications activities.

Equal Opportunities Statement

The Fund seeks to reflect the diversity of the community it serves through its volunteer base.
